Watershed Protection SB

The City of Santa Barbara is where it all started. Where in ’69 the 1st major offshore oil spill along the California coast occurred just offshore from Santa Barbara, when the outraged public decided to pressure the State & Federal authorities to create the Environmental Protection Agency (the EPA) under the 1st of it’s kind Congressional Bill to protect our environment – The Clean Water Act.

Fast forward to today, Santa Barbara is still at the vanguard of environmental protection, and leading that charge is the city’s Creeks Division dedicated to monitoring and protecting water quality from the headwaters to the sea.
